Full face snorkel masks are gaining in popularity but are they as good as an old style snorkeling mask and snorkel? We compare both types of snorkeling masks across several categories and decide what are the pros and cons of each mask.
Personally I always recommend using a traditional mask and snorkel instead of a full face snorkeling mask is someone is learning how to snorkel. it’s not a controversy. full face barely makes sense for surface swimming. if you’re going to dive, at all, get a regular mask.
I used to have googles and u had to hold my nose but than I bought this and it helped a lot
Can i use full face masks if i have a beard?
After I installed crowns on my teeth I no longer comfortable using traditional mask. It just doesn’t fit right the way it used to be on my natural teeth. Something to keep in mind.
Traditional mask – I just need to protect the eyes from the saltwater. You can talk, you can breath normally outside the water. Its even more dangerous to have this full face mask, just search for it…
What about all the places that have outlawed the use of full face masks

I Have used a full face snorkel and its comfortable but my face sweats so it actually gets hot inside the mask
Don’t like two features of a traditional snorkel mask, it doesn’t matter what model I use. 1. Water getting in from waves or turning my head even with a dry tube and a wave guard. It doesn’t take long and I’m tired of tasting salt water and a little goes a long way. Constantly having to keep the small reservoir below the mouth blown out. 45 minutes or less and I’m out of the water because I’m just tired of tasting or swallowing bits of salt water. 2. The mask will fog up after a few minutes over and over again. Tired of taking my head out of the water so I can break the seal and rub the fog away with my fingers, then resealing. So I just purchased the most expensive and top-rated dry traditional mask and the top-rated full-face mask to see which is better with these two issues. When you look at the cost of a Caribbean vacation, what’s another $140 for the two masks. I’m hoping one of these masks will help me with these lifelong issues which is causing me to lose my love for snorkeling. The underwater world is so incredibly beautiful, so I need to find a way to resolve these issues. GREAT VIDEO!!!

I had to quiit scuba diving, after having an injury, and subsequent hearing loss. I then bought a special mask, with ear cups, so thought I could dive again. However, I then had to get tooth implants, front, top of my mouth. I can’t use the mask, because it puts pressure on my gum. Now, at least I can use the full face mask, so I’m thrilled, to at least be able to snorkel. I may try scuba diving, down to 10 ‘,, also.
how people use spectacles do snorkeling or diving?
I have over 40 years experience snorkelling and recently purchased a full face mask, on the whole I like it better for comfort (especially salty taste) but it’s one big downside is being able to dive down as the buoyancy makes that difficult. I don’t do a lot of free diving but do like to dive down for a closer look and that is not impossible but is more difficult.
I think on balance the full face will be my go to but will probably take both with me unless space is an issue.
My biggest issue when snorkeling is my spectacles/Glasses. It gets fogged all the time … Makes me wanna quit

In Europe the full face is king…no issue with any operators.
Good for wife and daughter to get used to snorkeling. I have one just to show solidarity 😂 being a diver.
Something to consider as well, is if the full face mask is latex free, which it looks like it is, based on the materials that it’s made with, vs the latex in the rubber for the traditional mask and snorkel.
If you care about what others think of you by what snorkel gear you where..well…that’s just sad.
I find it’s near impossible to free dive with the full face because of the large amount of air in them
Most of the video is good, BUT he makes a lot of assumptions that the full face straps will go bad or the one way valves will go bad maybe they will but why have some actual data on their failure rates? Facts are always better.

I live in Hawaii. People have drowned using the full face snorkel because of rebreathing their own air. It’s dangerous for amateurs.
And with the full fave mask you can’t equalize your ears when going deep

I get it that face masks are meant for beginners but straight up banning them to do a excursion is just ridiculous. You’re not letting people enjoy the experience of snorkeling.

I’ve been using my old traditional mask for over 20 years and I have used my full face mask for about 5 years . Yes I agree that full face masks are for bunch of newbies and retards which what I have look like when I use my full face mask . Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy using it and when I see someone else using it , I try to stay away from that person . 😂 but when I do spearfishing or freediving especially in the Rocky locations , traditional masks always there with me to join my dive .

The full face mask kills more people than the traditional ones. Traditional ones, hands down safer all around. Don’t be fooled
I think both are good depending on what you want, if you just wanna look from the surface then full-face is better but if you wanna dive traditional is a bit better and more comfortable

Great review, also the cleaning with the full face seems complicated.
I find the full face hurts my jaw after 45mins and it not good to dive down with the full face too much pressure.
